The Attributes of God





I have been wanting to study and learn the attributes of God for a while now. If we claim to know God and yet do not know anything about His attributes, we fall into creating God in our own image and how we want Him to be. I did not want to fall into the latter way of thinking, I want to know God and all of who He is according to His word.  As I started researching some resources to help me learn I came across Shai Linnes "Attributes of God" Album on iTunes.

I rarely purchase a full album from anyone because I normally don't like all the songs they have. Well this album turned out to be one of my favorites. I have listened to it over and over since purchasing it. Since I am a musician, I naturally find things easier to learn when set to music. As I continue to hear the songs I am also learning about Gods Attributes.

Cultivating Gratitude: life is a Vapor

This past week ive been hearing of many tragic deaths of infants being left in cars, a family friend who died from stomach cancer, and a friend of my mom who lost her son and his two best friends in a car accident.
I am reminded how short life is.  At any moment, without warning, death can strike ourselves or our loved ones. we take so many things for granted, and thats why I started these cultivating Gratitude posts to help me not take anyone or anything for granted.
I am reminded to tell my family members how much I love and appreciate them.
I am reminded to not take life for granted both physical life and the new life Christ has given me.
I am greatful this week for the time God has given me with my family.

Cultivating Gratitude:Fathers Day Edition

Last week I started my first post in a series on cultivating Gratitude (here),  and this week I have  many things to be thankful for.

And since father's day is coming up I have dedicated this post to honoring the two men in my life... my wonderful husband and the best dad I could have ever asked for.

Cultivating Gratitude towards my husband, a few reasons I am thankful:

•celebrating four years of marriage with my best friend
•his hard work to provide for the family
•his example in reading and studying Gods word and prayer
•his passion for apologetics
•his love and affection towards our daughter
•his love and respect towards my parents
•his heart to provide for his Compassion kids in Africa
•his desire to know God and honor Him
•I am most grateful for the way he loves me

Cultivating Gratitude towards my Dad, a few reasons I am thankful:

•his sacrifices throughout my childhood to make sure my siblings and I had what we needed and at times to give us what we wanted
•his outward display of affection toward my mother
•his love for teaching others how to have a Godly marriage
•his love for fitness
•his respect and love towards my husband and taking him in as a son
•his love for my daughter
•his love for apologetics
•his love for God

◆Alright so many of my readers are meeting you for the first time,  what is one thing you'd like them to know about you?


When I first got saved, my friend used to sit next to me in service and every Sunday he would tell me, "Bro, you should do a rap about Jesus!" I repeatedly shot him down and explained that you couldn't make Jesus sound cool in a rap song. He aptly replied with, "Yea, but you could be the guy that changes that." That's how my gospel rap career started.


◆What is your process for writing a song? Do you purposefully make time to write or do the lyrics just come to you?


Actually, both! My most common approach is this: I will make the beat first, listen to it for a couple of days, then brainstorm and pray about what the topic of the song should be. From there, spend the next few days writing and re-writing. It's a pretty boring process, but in my mind it is exciting because that is when I get to be the most creative. However, even when I am not purposefully writing a song, I'll often come up with lyrics and write them down in the back of my journal. It makes for a good kickstart when I'm battling writer's block.


◆I know you are recently married, please share a word of wisdom you have learned as a newlywed:


Expectation Communication!!! The pastor that married us hammered that into our heads during premarital counseling. Initially we really struggled with telling one another what we REALLY wanted. For example, my wife's love language is quality time. To me, that just meant that all I had to do was be in the same room with her. She made it clear to me that quality time, to her, means giving her my undivided attention and engaging in an intentional conversation. Now, when I get the hint that her love tank is dwindling, I know exactly what she is trying to communicate to me. Before that, I would just get frustrated because she was upset and I didn't understand why.


◆How has the Gospel impacted your life thus far?


Oh man, where do I begin! Well, it has forced me to change my outlook on life. How i view money, time, people, relationships, education, EVERYTHING! Because of the gospel, I chose to marry who I married, I changed my major, I make an effort to live frugally, etc. I almost feel like i'm boasting but the point I am trying to make is that I am a completely different person because of  the good new of Jesus. I'm thoroughly confident that several people in my life can attest to that, especially the ones who knew me before I met Jesus. God has truly given me a heart for youth ministry and I get lots of opportunities to minister to them through music that they find appealing and relatable. That is a mission field that my heart is burdened for and if it weren't for the gospel, I don't even know what I would be doing…it kinda scares me to think where I would've ended up had it not been for God's grace and mercy.





Javie and his wife Rox have three huge goals:

1) Travel the country (especially in the summer) to speak and perform for camps, churches, and faith-based programs.

2) Not be tied down by debt and be available for missions trips whenever God calls.

3)Live in a camper full-time for at least 3 years in order to STOP renting a home and be able to save what we do have to build a shipping container home and eventually adopt/foster many kids and teens

Cultivating Gratitude

So I came across this post from Renown and Crowned on cultivating Gratitude. She has been posting her journal of all the things she is grateful for and I was inspired to do the same. Every thursday I will make a new cultivating Gratitude post.

Its so easy in our daily lives, in the midst of work, spouses and growing babies to go without acknowledging the Mercies God brings us everyday
To go without saying thank you to our heavenly Father for all he has allowed us to partake in.

I know its easier for me to complain about whats wrong or not going my way than to be grateful and full of praise. So this blog series will help to keep me accountable and focused on cultivating an attitude of gratitude

Song Spotlight: Tedashii-Make War

Theres not a time I go out to exercise that I don't listen to this song.  It reminds me that no matter how I feel I must make war with my flesh and all its earthly desires. Desires to be lazy, desires to overeat, desires to sin.

The beginning of the song is my favorite part, it starts off with a snippet from John Piper:

Oh isnt that the truth. Christians always wondering why they keep falling for the same sins. No one is making war.  No one is beating their flesh into submission. 

1 Peter 1:13-16 ESV

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. keeping with the saga theme) of the spoken word project. Book One is entitled “Embark” because it highlights some of the beginning sentiments and experiences of the saint in the eternal saga. "Battle" video Premiere Eternal Saga of the Saints

Recently I was given the opportunity to record violin for my friend Quinas spoken word project -The Eternal Saga of the Saints. Today is the premier video for the first track "Battle" which I also got to be on.

All Glory Goes to Thee

"The Eternal Saga of the Saints"

The last few months I have had a wonderful opportunity to play violin on my friend Quina's spoken word project called "The Eternal Saga of the Saints". I am so excited for this project to be released. Every time I get together with Quina I am encouraged by her heart to serve The Lord, to share the gospel with the world, and to encourage the saints. She is all about glorifying Christ in everything that she does.

Pride comes Before the Fall-Your Not A Rock Star

Pride is what makes a worship leader and worship team desire to be  "rock stars" (of course who wouldn't feel like a rock star in churches all over America with there fancy lighting,concert like stages, and fog machines, but that's for another a blog). These people are so caught up in how they look and how they sound instead of honoring God with their worship.  Pride yells at the sound man because you cant hear yourself. Pride strolls in 20 minutes after practice has started. Pride says I am better than you cause I am up on stage playing some pretty rift . I have heard stories about people on worship teams who are so caught up in showcasing there talents and the music that if someone were to try and get in the way of there dreams to be a christian "rock star" watch out. One minute there singing songs about the creator and the next treating there Spouses and kids like crap. All for the sake of being seen and noticed for there talent. its like Christ said 'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me"(matther 15:8)

 Worship teams check yourselves. Do not let the praise of men be your downfall. Paul said in Galations 1:10, " For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ." The only way to live is to abide in Christ. John 15 "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned."  We can do nothing apart from Christ. So all this pride on church worship teams  is just garbage. We need to be like Christ "who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant,being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."(Phil 2:6-9)

 So cut the wannabe christian celebrity rock star act, its overrated and lame. Its all about Christ and has always been all about Christ. Eat some humble pie and realize that without God we cant even wake up in the morning or better yet step onto any stage to play or sing. 





James 4:6 



But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."

For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. 

Let him who boasts boast in the Lord. For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

A Video for all you visual People-Worship is not about you!

Worship is not about you...sorry to burst your bubble!

 I have been to many churches and its appalling how many songs are sung that's all about me,me,me and I,I,I.  Its like worship leaders do not think when there picking out songs and the congregation does not think while there singing them.  But of course if these people are self centered rather than Christ centered then they wont mind songs that's all about themselves. Worship is meant to Glorify God. If you want to  listen to these songs on your own time by all means, but please, please, please, leave them out of corporate worship. Our prayer should be Matthew 6:10"your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven". How is it in heaven? Revelation 5:11-14 "And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, [be] unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four [and] twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever."




These are just 2 examples of songs that are done in churches with peoples hands lifted high while singing about...... themselves.
