Lie we believe: Sin vs. Mistake

Our culture wants everyone to 'feel' good. Dont make someone 'feel' bad by telling them they have sinned, just call it a 'mistake'  its easier to digest.
Oh what lie we have brought. Would we need a savior to save us from 'Mistakes'? Do we cheapen Gods mercy and grace by not calling out sin for what it is?

The definition  of mistake is:  1.an error in action, calculation, opinion, or judgment caused by poorreasoning, carelessness, insufficient knowledge, etc.2.a misunderstanding or misconception.

Examples may be:
1. I made a mistake by using a teaspoon of sugar instead of tablespoon
2. I made a mistake calling my mom when I ment to call my dad
3. I made a mistake by picking up the wrong book for class

Now lets see what the bible says about sin:

Exodus 20:3-17 ESV
“You shall have no other gods before me.   “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.   “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.   “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.   “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.   “You shall not murder.   “You shall not commit adultery.   “You shall not steal.   “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.   “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.”

Matthew 5:28-30 ESV
But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.  If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell.  And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.

1 John 1:8-10 ESV
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Romans 3:23 ESV
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Colossians 3:5-6 ESV
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming.

Colossians 3:8-9 ESV
But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices

Galatians 5:19-21 ESV
Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Proverbs 28:13 ESV
Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

Let us call sin for what it is. Before a holy, perfect,  and righteous Judge we will be found guilty of sin. He will not see it as a 'mistake'.
But take heart my friend there is hope: The Gospel

A poisonous pill is never a whit the less poisonous because it is gilded over with gold; nor a wolf is never a whit the less a wolf because he has put on a sheep’s skin; nor the devil is never a whit the less a devil because he appears sometimes like an angel of light. So neither is sin any whit the less filthy and abominable by its being painted over with virtue’s colors.
