Top Four ways to Memorize Scripture

Memorizing Scripture helps us to focus on Christ and His word in times when we may not be able to have a bible open in front of us. When we fill our minds with His word we have something to combat sin with. Here are a few ways that I've used to memorize scripture.

I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. (Psalm 119:11 ESV)

1. Index Cards
You can hand write them yourself or purchase pre-made ones. When I hand make them I usually write three verses per card. I memorize better when I have the context of the Verse to read at once. If that doesn't work for you just put one scripture on each index card and when you memorize it move on to the next. You can put these on your car dash board, or keep them in your pocket/purse to pull out when you have a spare moment. I also love the fighter verse memorizing system. These pre-made cards are absolutely wonderful and go along with my next favorite way to memorize ....

2. The Fighter Verse Memory App

This app offers severely ways to memorize scripture either by full chapters or one verse at a time. It also has quizzes to test you and your progress.

Another thing you can do on this app or on any other app that makes memes is....

3. Create a Memory Verse background and lock screen on your phone, tablet,or computer. That way whenever you go to check your text messages or email you can do a quick recap of the verse.

And finally......

4. Post Scriptures by your Toilet

I mean think about it...were do you spend lots of time getting ready and handling your business?? The Bathroom of course. As you brush your teeth first thing in the morning and before you go to sleep, you can do a recap of the verses.
While your using the toilet instead of reading some pointless magazine you can memorize scripture.

“You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, (Deuteronomy 11:18-20 ESV)

  3. love your ideas! we use index cards often. I've also used the chalkboard - writing a verse, repeating it, then erasing a word at a time and have the children fill in the blank as they recite it.
